Verizon just changed the software in my westel router/modem and did not tell me. this caused the dsl to stop working for my linux systems set up with static ips. This is what I did to get the dsl working on Fedora Core 6. Go to the "configure network devices and connections" dialog box and change the setting for the ethernet card to dhcp if it is not already set that way. It says "obtain ip address from internet provider". The verizon router defaults to dhcp.Also make sure the verizon router's dhcp address range is wide enough to accomdate your network and does not conflict with any static ip addresses you may have set. Also make sure you do not have any other dhcp servers on your private network behind the router. Also if you do a hard reset on the router go to http://192.168.1.1/verizon/redirect.htm. When you get to that page click disable.
